St. Pius X Church completes construction of new Gathering Space
(September 13, 2008)
After more than seven years of planning, design and construction, the people of St. Pius X Church in Montville, NJ held a ceremony to bless their new Gathering Space. Designed as a link between the current and future worship spaces, this dramatic two-story structure creates an inviting place for the parishioners of St. Pius X to gather before and after Mass. It will also provide much needed space for the parish to use for smaller, more intimate gatherings.
The new space features a Holy Family sculpture by Karen Schmidt and art glass by Brad Butler. The wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling glass on the north, west and south sides of the building floods the space with natural light. Venetian plaster on the remaining walls combine with imported porcelain tile to create a rich, warm environment for gathering. This new structure represents the design aesthetic of the proposed, new 750-seat worship space, which will be built when funds are available.
